Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012 Campaign.

All aboard the Louis Vuitton Express. So, if you watched the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012 presentation in March, you will most likely be able to remember the wonderful $8 million locomotive that was especially built for the show. Well it’s no surprise that Marc Jacobs decided to incorporate this old-fashioned train car into the Fall 2012 campaign for Louis Vuitton. However it wasn’t a simple procedure and a team had to de-construct the train and ship it to a New York studio, where photographer Steven Meisel worked his magic. “We wanted to continue the journey we started with the fashion show… The glamour of travel and the romance of going somewhere,” Jacobs explained.

The ad campaign features models Franzi Mueller, Julia Nobis, Mackenzie Drazan, Magda Laguinge, Marie Piovesan, Marina Heiden, and Ros Georgiou, don the very opulent and sophisticated collection with the brocades, jewelled buttons, and those sky-high hats. Personally I wasn’t fond of this collection, however I was very much in love with the runway set-up, the concept, and now this campaign. It stands out from all the other ad’s I have seen thus far, and it really connects the collection with the story Jacobs explained. Often I find that some ad campaigns can be really disconnected from the actual collection, if that makes sense. However there is no such issue here. The collection has that period and romantic feel about it, and this campaign expresses that to me. We have the old train for the dated/period aspect, and the women who are most likely travelling back to their husbands or partners for the romantic aspect. But of course these ladies dress in style and don’t want to be outdone by anyone.
